Decentralized Servo Drives with IP67 Protection

The decentralized drive system consists of a central power supply module and robust IP67 controllers mounted in close proximity to the motor. The system combines everything needed for the next generation of machine design while maintaining simplicity. The hybrid cable, which is 11 mm in diameter, combines power supply as well as safety and fieldbus communication of the AKD-N. Also on the motor side, only one cable is required for power, brake control and feedback system. This results in a cable saving of more than 80% in the machine, with power ratings of up to 8 kW being covered by the controllers. As additional options a tertiary EtherCAT output and a local STO are available.

Feature of the Decentralized Servo Drives

Cost reduction

  • DC and network, power supply, I/O level as well as safety (STO) run in one line --> less cabling effort
  • Specialist knowledge is not necessary for quick and easy installation, as cables are tested and pre-assembled
  • Compared to an integrated system, the lack of derating allows smaller motor and servo drive combinations with the same output power

Compact

  • Smaller control cabinets --> easy to integrate
  • Servo drives are located in the immediate vicinity of the motor
  • No need for protective housing due to robust design in protection class IP67

Faster activation

  • Toolless connection through IP67 plug connectors
  • The hybrid cable is eleven millimeters thin and can be laid in a space-saving manner - also thanks to small bending radii in hard-to-reach machine corners
  • Direct connection of I/O systems or networks to the drive
  • Parameterization with the WorkBench software from Kollmorgen

Increased machine efficiency (OEE)

  • Fast and effective cleaning is supported by Design
  • Robust construction --> High operational safety
  • Accuracy through digital feedback
  • Good overview due to status display on the servo drive

Flexibility

  • Compatible with all Kollmorgen motors with single or dual cable connection
  • Simple combination of centralised and decentralised control units within the universal AKD family
  • Agile conversion or upgrade options through linear topology and I/O and network interfaces on the axis
