MACCON is a renowned manufacturer of motors, drive electronics, as well as position and angle measurement systems for space applications. Space is an extremely challenging environment with a variety of obstacles that need to be overcome. MACCON's mission is to develop innovative solutions that reliably function under the extreme conditions of space.

One of the main challenges in space is the extreme temperature difference between heat and cold. Temperature fluctuations can be substantial and put stress on materials and components. MACCON has designed its motors, drive electronics, and position and angle measurement systems to withstand these extreme temperatures. Special materials and robust constructions ensure that the devices operate reliably even under extreme temperature conditions.

Furthermore, space is characterized by vibrations and shocks that can occur during launch and mission operations. These vibrations and shocks can damage or impair sensitive electronic components. MACCON has engineered its products to withstand the high stresses caused by vibrations and shocks. Robust enclosures, shock absorption systems, and special mounting methods ensure that the devices remain stable and maintain their functionality.

Another challenging element in space is the vacuum. Space is almost a complete vacuum, which presents a unique environment for electronic components. MACCON has developed its products to reliably function even under vacuum conditions. Special seals and materials guarantee that no undesired effects such as leakage or degradation occur that could impair the functionality of the devices.

Lastly, radiation is a significant factor in space. Space radiation can damage electronic components and affect their performance. MACCON uses special protective mechanisms such as radiation shields and robust, radiation-tolerant materials to ensure that its products are shielded from the effects of radiation and maintain their functionality.

On the right-hand side menu, you will find further information on the specific topics that MACCON specializes in. These include space-worthy motors, drive electronics, and position and angle measurement. Each of these areas is crucial for successful space operations, and MACCON has extensive experience and expertise in developing solutions that meet the demands of space.

MACCON takes pride in offering high-quality products that withstand the extreme conditions of space while ensuring reliable performance. Their advanced technology, commitment to innovation, and years of experience make MACCON a trusted partner for space missions and projects.

Space-rated motors

MACCON can supply all types of electric motors and actuators on an electromagnetic basis for use in space. The following list shows the variety of types:

  •     Servo Motors
  •     Torque motors, also single-phase with limited angle
  •     Stepper motors
  •     Reluctance motors (no permanent magnets)
  •     Motors with hollow shaft or with thin stator and rotor rings
  •     Linear motors and solenoid actuators
  •     Rotary and linear solenoids
  •     Complete motors in housing, with encoder, gearbox, including bearings (special lubrication)

Space-rated drive electronics

In addition to our space-rated motors and rotary / linear encoders, we are also developers of space-rated drive electronics. Our drive electronics have already been used on various space satellites. Each project has different requirements, but we rely on established components, materials and architectures that have been successfully used in space projects such as satellites and on the ISS.
